Destination: Or Tor Kor

This is a map of Chatuchak Market, the enormous weekend market everybody who comes to Bangkok knows about.  Or Tor Kor Market, where we were going, is right next door.

That machine checks your temp while simultaneously spraying sanitizer into your hand.

We arrived for all the durian.  We got there so early, though, not everything was even set up.  All the durian and fruit stalls would be packed full within a hour or two.

Heaven!

You know you're in Thailand when......

grilled pork

Kade's moving in!  This is the pick-and-choose style of eating I enjoy in Thailand.  Rice is put on a plate, then you pick a few items to go with it.

My plate is on the right.  I got stir-fried bamboo shoots w/ chicken and cinnamon eggs w/ pork and tofu.  Kade got red curry bamboo shoots w/ chicken and Phat Phrik Khing (sweet, dry curry w/ pork and long beans).  And this was our breakfast!  It was so delicious!

I tried three durian varieties.  Loved them all.

Durian Chips

We ate sweet sticky rice w/ custard and sweet sticky rice w/ shrimp.

The custard I love so much!  It's most often put on sticky rice.

That's a pork patty with a salted egg on top.  You could pick any of the dishes  - especially coming from the West - and experience some flavors that you've never had before and that just change how you think about food.

We arrived back at the MRT station near Kade's home.

from inside one of the new condos we looked at

Kade's brother brought home these traditional desserts steamed inside banana leaves.

He also brought home these durians, just to see if they were as good as ones I had been trying.
