Mesmerized

My friends from Uzbekistan who studied at Samford were mesmerized by the quantity and variety of goods in Birmingham (Alabama) supermarkets. And Uzbekistan was part of the USSR, of course. They were also really interested in housing development and construction sites. Just interesting to see how quickly societies can open and ultimately surpass the competition if the system is changed. I saw stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg that leave lots of American places behind. Truly. It would shock Americans. And fewer fat people! So humans are capable of incredible feats, and often times this is accelerated once a system crashes.  - July 2017 message to friend
