I inherited these hats from my great-uncle, who died a couple of years ago. He enjoyed traveling, and went on a few trips together. One journey was to Uzbekistan in the early 90s. The colorful embroidered hat on the left is called a doppi (in Uzbek) or tubeteika (in Russian). The one on the right is a traditional Mongolian hat. It's possible my uncle got this hat in Central Asia in the 90s or a later trip to China. I'm pretty certain he never traveled to Mongolia.
The painting is one I bought for my mother while on a trip to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
