Staying Very Hopeful

A friend once asked me, after my return from a trip to Thailand, "Did you have an okay time?  My response: "Thailand is never just okay. If you don't have a great time in Thailand, something went horribly wrong."

My personal list of best things to do in Bangkok:

Go to two or three rooftop bars for amazing cocktails and views

Take advantage of your first days of jet lag by visiting the flower market when it's bustling in the wee hours of the morning

Tour the Grand Palace, nearby Wat Pho, and then walk through the amulet market

Jump on the metro and go to Chinatown for dinner

Try all the unusual fruits, especially durian

Pick one of the areas known for delicious street food and go there for dinner

Cruise around the city's river and canals on a long tail boat

Get every type of massage you desire

See as many temples as you can

Walk around Khao San Rd one evening & have dinner and traditional desserts next door on Soi Rambuttri

Venture inside a couple of the big mega-malls and have lunch in their food courts

Enjoy riding the BTS (skytrain) to a part of the city you've researched ahead of time
