When I was living in Bangkok in 2003, at the condo where my wife and I lived, we had dial-up internet. That's how it was then. And I had just started exploring the website ttps://www.skyscrapercity.com/. To this day, that website remains in my favorites, and I look at it twice a week, mainly to see what new construction is "in the works" in the Thai capital and other world cities. I recall, though, in those early years, finding some photos of the area where I was living and working, and deciding to email them to family and friends back in the States. I emailed one brother, and he was surprised at how "urban" and big Bangkok was. All these years, I kept those original photos. I had downloaded them and put them into a Word Doc, and that's how I had shared them. You couldn't just easily attach big image files to an email back then. Just today, I found the old document and pulled the photos off of it. Here they are! These are the first Bangkok skyline images I emailed to anybody. Of course, you will see on each image the name of the person who owns the copyright.
The Amari Watergate Hotel at the bottom is where my uncle stayed when he came for my wedding. That hotel also has a great pool and fitness center. I joined the gym for about a year, and I really loved it. That intersection at bottom-left (Ratchadamri/Phetchburi) is where I enjoyed having dinner.
After Kade and I got married in Feb. 2003, we lived in a condo that is just out-of-picture. It was across the soi (side street) from the tall condominium that you can see on the far right.
The Victory Monument. Hidden behind those large apartment/condo buildings below is the apartment building where I lived when I moved to Bangkok. I would walk to the BTS (skytrain) station, and take that train to/from AUA, the language school where I taught English.
