Night Out

The first stop was Moon Bar at Banyan Tree Hotel.  This is one of Bangkok's most popular and iconic rooftop bars.  It's been around for a while.  Kade and I enjoyed it twenty plus years ago.  So, I wanted to return to see if it still lives up to the hype.

You can see Iconsiam in the distance.

Straight ahead, the tallest building, is Baiyoke 2.  Right in front of it is St. Regis Hotel, where a friend recently stayed.

In the center is SO/Bangkok hotel.  They have a great rooftop bar called HI-SO.  In the upper lefthand corner is Langsuan Rd.  There are three excellent rooftop bars there.

In the distance are Phrom Phong and Thonglor districts.  That green area in the middle is Benjakitti Park and Benjakitti Forest Park.

I zoomed in on Phrong Phong Soi 24.  I can spot Skyview and Hyatt Place hotels.

That's the Instagram spot!  Hope she gets lots of views!

We really enjoyed Moon Bar, but it's definitely more crowded now.  And if you're not a hotel guest, there's a prepayment system that they have just started.  Maybe that's something to think about.  I personally think there are at least a handful of rooftop bars that are better overall.  That said, for tourists and first-timers in Bangkok, Moon Bar makes a very good impression.

After Moon Bar, we walked to Vesper on Soi Convent.  For those who desire to do the walk, it's very easy to get across Sathorn Rd near Banyan Tree Hotel.  There's a huge crosswalk.  Just be careful.

This is a shrine we saw along the way.

I believe we ordered a Vesper and Gimlet.

After our drinks, we then continued our walk in Bangkok's Central Business District.  We walked up and down Silom Rd, through the Patpong Night Market and on Soi Thaniya (Little Tokyo).

This is a shrine and spirit house combo.

For dinner, we went to the Took Lae Dee at Foodland Park Silom.  If you know the Foodland diners on Sukhumvit and in Patpong, this is the newer, cleaner, better version of it.

I got the Pad Thai with Shrimp.  It was very good.

Foodland is a big, modern supermarket that resembles (surpasses even) many places where I shop back home in the States.
