I love how they are renovating shophouses. The dangling wires are Bangkok's extra touch. Lol
I took the MRT to Or Tor Kor Market.
Or Tor Kor has great food stalls. You can also find delicious durian at the market.
After lunch, I jumped back on the MRT. I wanted to get to the station closest to Khlong (canal) Saen Saab, where I could take a taxi boat to Pratunam. Before getting on the Khlong taxi, I wanted to check out the Singha Complex. A huge shopping center makes up the bottom 4 floors, and it was full of university students. There's a lot of energy in Bangkok.
This video should start at 2:13. The Singha Complex is on the left. You should see the khlong (canal), down below, just behind Singha. That's where I caught the taxi boat. I went right (west) towards Pratunam. It was many stops. I will add a video later.
shrine at Singha Complex
This art is located outside the Singha Complex.
After getting off the boat, I walked to the Amari Watergate Bangkok. I went upstairs to check out the pool and fitness center. I used to be a member there. When I was done, I went back down to the lobby restaurant, where I got some Basque Cheesecake and a cappuccino. I had much to do on that day!
This is the shrine at Amari Watergate Bangkok.
You can find more humble shrines and spirit houses in Thailand. This one was at the entrance to a market in Pratunam.
I made my way to Phenix Mall. To old-timers, this is where the mega-computer and IT mall Pantip used to be. We used to live nearby. They have done an amazing job renovating it. What I liked the most was the rooftop.
Directly in the middle - the white with light grey trim condominium - is where Kade and I lived after we married.
From the Phenix Mall parking garage, I was able to spot these apartments that are next to the khlong and hidden away behind Central World.
Phenix Mall has lots of places to eat, which I'm sure is not a surprise. Bangkok is a foodie paradise! I may return and try this restaurant in 2025.
The sashimi stall looked really good.
I was then on my way to another rooftop. I had to time these next two perfectly.
parts of Pratunam you're not used to seeing
Look closely and you'll see the colorful dragon atop Phenix Mall. I was there, and then walked to where I am now.
Again, take note of the dragon. And then the hotel you see is the Amari Watergate, where I had that delicious cheesecake. I can even see my old condo a bit behind the hotel. This is the beauty of Bangkok: From these high-up perches you can see so much!
Take note of the Indra Regent Hotel. It's an old, historic Bangkok hotel. I've blogged about it before. Straight ahead, that white building in front of the much larger dark gray building is Akara hotel. Believe it or not, after finishing up my drinks here, my goal was to walk over there. I needed to get there just before sunset. Did I make it?
There it is again.
It was a great mocktail! And since it was Happy Hour, I got a second one free. Life is good!
Now I am starting my walk.
I thought of my former collleague at AUA, Ross McCarthy. Somebody said he's still living in Bangkok.
Ta-da! I made it!
Now, you will like this. I am looking back in the direction of the previous rooftop bar.
See the purple sign. I was sitting just to the right of it. Amazing.
Fried Rice w/ Grilled River Prawns
It was delicious!
After dinner, I decided to walk towards the Victory Monument. I reached Soi Raangnam, a street I used to always love.
Next time I will try this Japanese curry restaurant.
