Amsterdam, Day 5

We were getting more and more comfortable in our little Amsterdam neighborhood.  And so to spice things up a bit more, we walked in a different direction.  Our goal was to walk all the way to Foodhallen, and we did that.  After looking around, we decided not to tempt fate and eat there again.  It would have never lived up to our earlier experience.  But it was pleasing to see the Foodhallen during the day.  And it was busy.  So we simply turned around and walked back down the same street, this time stepping inside some coffee shops and small bakeries, and doing even more people watching.  Locals were very active - walking, riding bikes and smiling.  It was a Saturday.  Pretty soon we were hungry.  And rather than sit down in a restaurant, we decided to try some Dutch "fast food."  Although the items were tasty, you had to stand there and watch them slice the meats, work the scales, operate the microwave and put the toppings on the hot dog.  I immediately came to the conclusion that the Netherlands, despite how advanced they are, don't really have the food safety regulations that we do in the USA.  No rating system of any kind was visible for customers.  It would be nice if they used gloves, washed their hands and were more conscientious about cross-contamination.  Just saying. After our quick meal, we decided to go to Coffeeshop Vondel, which had been recommended by our waiter at a fondue restaurant a couple of nights before.  I was hoping to have a better experience than I did the first time at Paradox.  We bought a space cake, took it back to our apartment and followed the directions - this time precisely.  For whatever reason, the results were exactly the opposite:  Kade and I felt nothing.  I think, if I ever go back to Amsterdam and I desire to experiment a more with weed, somebody who knows a lot will accompany me.
