We were picked up by our driver outside our apartment building in Puerto Varas and then taken to the dock in Puerto Montt to board the ferry for Chiloé Island, the largest island of the Chilean Archipelago. Our destination was the city of Castro, where we had booked a palafito (stilt house) through Airbnb.
