On a Saturday, we went to a non-touristy floating market not from Kade's family home in Bangkok: Taling Chan Floating Market. We grabbed a taxi at the department store Tang Hua Seng, and made it there in 10 minutes. After walking through an interesting market, we purchased our tickets for a klong (canal) tour. And although we thought we were not going to see many tourists, once on the long tail boat, we sat right in front of a family from Texas! The older parents had come to Asia to visit their son, who was married to a Chinese girl and living in China. They had all decided to vacation in Thailand! One interesting thing of note: On the boat tour, we spotted a large monitor lizard swimming in the choppy, murky water. According to our guide, seeing a monitor lizard is supposed to bring lots of luck. I need it!!
Turns out the boat did not have adequate legroom for taller passengers! As a result, we transformed lemons into lemonade. Instead of taking the whole klong tour, after docking at a fascinating riverside market for a twenty-minute break, we simply chose just to discontinue the boat portion and hang out there for a much longer period. We knew we could take a taxi back! I was mesmerized by all we saw at that market!
