Hotel National & Red Square

In the center of the picture, on the corner of Tverskaya Street (formerly Gorky) and whatever the name of the other street is, is Hotel National, the place where my grandfather Major stayed during his trip to Moscow in 1959.  Click here to see interior images of it.  And more interior images here, including portraits of famous guests.

Aunt Marilyn, this is the hotel where Granddad Major stayed during his tour of Russia back in the 50's (or 60's).  From what I have read, the hotel was built in 1903 and has undergone many changes over the years.  Now it's under the Meridian hotel brand.  the hotel was once at 1 Gorky Street, but now the street name has changed to Tverskaya.  The hotel is right next door to one of the metro stations and in arm's length of some of the city's main sites.  - from an e-mail, 2007
